Aatto had left the den not too long after Circe, a long lope bringing him to his destination far quicker than expected. Arriving about a hundred meters down from Circe at the edge of the pasture, his icy gaze wandering over all of the available prey. He began to trot briskly out into the pastures, careful not to make eye cotact with any ungulates lest he risk startling them. He began to make a list of possible targets in his mind.
Wild Horses. There's one that smells of arthritis. No, no. That won't do, Champei won't like hunting horses so quickly after what happened. With this quick conclusion he spent little time among their herd, ignoring their shifty glances towards him and the scraping of their hooves on the earth.
Bison? No, we don't have the numbers. [*Note, Aatto is unaware of Athos' acceptance and the presence of Maple.*] They bunch together and protect each other. There are too many of them. Once again he wasted no time among their numbers, oblivious to their snorts and grunts.
And then he reached the elk herd. Immediately his senses were flooded with their succulent scent and he it took all of his control to not just run at them. Elk was his favourite. He couldn't help but notice that some of their scents were tainted. Disease. Infection. He followed it, his attention now drawn to every single step they took. He saw the large cut stretched across the right flank of an all but perfect specimen. The male was tall and proud, but the thick pus dripping from his wound and over-awareness of Aatto's presence made him sure he was a possible target.
The elk flinched under his icy glare, the pure lust in his eyes making him appear to be the true wild animal he was, no sign of the usual kindness or compassion laced into his stare. It took all his effort to pull himself away and return to Circe.
With a waves running through his autumny coat as he ran, Aatto came to find Circe was not alone, Jethro, Champei and a stranger female - who happened to be sitting in a tree - all standing around her. The way they treated the reddish fae though made him certain she was a friend.
He joined their circle with only a light pant escaping his smiling jaws. "Why hello there, Miss Red, I'm Aatto and it's a pleasure to see you among our pack." he began with a nod and slight wag in her direction before turning his full attention to Jethro, unaware that he had an announcement to make. "Over on the east side of the pastures there's a prime looking buck, usually he'd be too strong for us to take on but he has an infected wound so it shouldn't be too challenging."
With that, he sat, muscles relaxed as he awaited any orders on their hunt.
